Research Module 16: Agroforestry Technologies as Adaptation Measures to Climate Change – Prof. Bouba Traoré
Module 16 of the WASCAL GRP-CC&Agric doctoral programme, delivered by Prof. Bouba Traoré (ICRISAT), introduced students to agroforestry technologies for climate change adaptation through lectures at Katibougou and a scientific excursion to ICRISAT.
Research Module 15: Agricultural Land Use Mapping (GIS and Remote Sensing) – Prof. Souleymane S. Traoré
As part of the WASCAL GRP-CC & Agric programme, Module 15 on Agricultural Land Use Mapping using GIS and Remote Sensing was held from 09 to 15 February 2026. Delivered by Prof. Souleymane S. Traoré, the module strengthened doctoral researchers’ skills in spatial analysis, image classification, and agricultural monitoring.
Research Module 14: Complex Social-Ecological Systems Modeling – Prof. Daniel Callo-Concha
As part of the WASCAL Graduate Research Programme in Climate Change and Agriculture, Module 14 focused on complex social-ecological systems modeling, with emphasis on systems thinking applied to climate change and agricultural research.
Research Module 13: Greenhouse Gas Emissions Drivers and Potential for Mitigation in Agricultural Systems – Prof. Elliott Ronald Dossou-Yovo
As part of the WASCAL Graduate Research Program in Climate Change and Agriculture (GRP-CC & Agric), the 13th module entitled “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Drivers and Potential for Mitigation in Agricultural Systems” was held from 26 to 29 January 2026. The course was delivered by Dr. Elliott Ronald Dossou-Yovo, Senior Climate Change and Agriculture Scientist at the Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice), Côte d’Ivoire.
Research Module 12: Agrometeorology and Agricultural Water Management (Rainfed and Irrigation Methods) – Dr Seydou B. Traoré
As part of the WASCAL Graduate Research Programme in Climate Change & Agriculture (GRP-CC&AGRIC), Mali, doctoral students attended Module 12 on Agrometeorology and Agricultural Water Management, delivered by Dr Seydou B. Traoré from 19 to 24 January 2026. The module combined theoretical lectures, practical modelling sessions using DSSAT, and a field visit to the meteorological station of Katibougou.
Research Module 11: Introduction to Crop Modelling and Application with AquaCrop — Prof. Moussa Waongo
The 11th module of the GRP-CC & Agric, delivered by Professor Moussa Waongo (AGRHYMET/CILSS), equipped students with strong theoretical and practical foundations in crop modelling using the AquaCrop model, a key tool for analyzing climate–water–agriculture interactions in West Africa.
Research Module 10: Agro-Biodiversity Management and Breeding Strategies – Prof. Benjamin O. Akinyele
As part of the WASCAL CC & AGRIC Doctoral Programme, Prof. Benjamin O. Akinyele from the Federal University of Technology Akure (Nigeria) delivered Module 10: “Agro-Biodiversity Management and Breeding Strategies”, held from 5–10 January 2026 in Katibougou.
Research Module 9: Research Methods, Participatory Action Research and Field Techniques – Prof. Chukudi Goddey Michael
The ninth module of the WASCAL Mali Doctoral Programme in Agriculture and Climate Change was held from December 15th to 20th, 2025. Delivered by Prof. Chukudi Goddey Michael, the module marked the conclusion of the programme’s teaching activities for the 2025 academic year.
Research Module 8: Application of Simulation Models to Assess Climate Impacts on Production Systems – Prof. Dilys Sefakor MacCarthy
The CC & AGRIC Doctoral Programme delivered the module “Application of Simulation Models to Assess Climate Impacts on Production Systems,” taught from December 1st to 12th, 2025 by Prof. Dilys Sefakor MacCarthy from the University of Ghana. The course strengthened doctoral students’ skills in agricultural systems modelling and climate-impact assessment.

As part of the CC & AGRIC Doctoral Programme, Prof. Michael O. Adu (University of Cape Coast, Ghana) delivered Module 7: Scientific Writing & Presentation Skills. Held from November 24th – 28th, 2025, the module strengthened doctoral students’ abilities in scientific writing and academic communication.
Research Modules 5 and 6: GIS, Remote Sensing, Geostatistics & Biostatistics – Dr. Vincent Nduka OJEH
As part of the Climate Change & Agriculture Doctoral Programme, Dr. Vincent Nduka OJEH (Taraba State University, Nigeria) delivered Modules 5 and 6 focusing on GIS/Remote Sensing & Geostatistics, followed by Biostatistics for climate–agriculture applications. The sessions combined theoretical foundations, practical analyses, and interactive discussions.
